Important Rules in Website Design
For your website, there should be extra attention should be paid to every details to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose well. Here are few important rules to observe to make sure your website performs well.
1) Avoid using a splash pages
Splash pages are the initial pages you see when visitors arrive at a website. They normally have a very nice visuals with content says like "Welcome message" or "click here to enter" & etc.... In fact, there are no real purpose on that. Don't let your visitors have a reason to click on the "back" button!. Instead you can give them the value of your website up front without the splash page.
2) Don't use many advertisements
The net savvy people have trained themselves to avoide clicking banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable website real estate. Instead, you can provide more valuable unique content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content. Let your visitors feels that they want to buy instead of being forced to buy.
3) Keep a simple and clear navigation
You have to provide a simple and very friendly navigation menu. So that even a young child will know how to use it. Try to avoide complicated Flash based menus or multi-levels dropdown menus. If your visitors don't know how to navigate, they will leave your site immediately.
4) Have a clear indication on pages
When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your website, visitors wants to know which part of the site they are in at that moment. In that way, the visitors will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any other section of the site easily.
5) Avoid using audio file on your site
If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your website and reading your content, you have to make sure that they're not annoyed by some audio looping on and on your site. If its neceesorry to adding an audio, make sure they have some volume or muting controls over it
